Why FE Engineering Feels Hard at First

Three reasons, and they are all solvable.

First: the subjects are genuinely new. Engineering Mathematics is not Class 12 Maths with harder numbers. It is a different approach — matrices, differential equations, Fourier series. Engineering Mechanics is almost entirely numerical. Engineering Graphics is a drawing subject that rewards repetition, not reading.

Second: internals hit early. ISE and MSE exams happen during the semester, not at the end. Students who do not prepare for these lose guaranteed marks — marks you cannot recover in ESE.

Third: there is no one telling you what to do. Board exams had a schedule and a teacher pushing you. Engineering semesters are your responsibility.

The Study System That Produces 9+ SGPA

Here is what our top SGPA students at Joshi's Classes actually do, week by week through the semester.

Weeks 1–4 (Foundation): Attend every coaching session. Solve 10 Maths problems daily — not review, not read, solve. For Mechanics, draw one Free Body Diagram every day. For Graphics, draw one complete projection every three days. The subject skills are built in these early weeks, not before the exam.

Weeks 5–8 (Internal preparation): MSE covers roughly the first three units. By end of Week 4, your coaching should have covered these. Do two full mock tests at home — three hours each, no phone — using past MSE papers. Students who do this consistently score 80%+ in internals.

Weeks 9–14 (Cover the back half): Units 4, 5, 6 are now being taught. Keep practicing Maths daily. Revise Units 1–3 once a week — even 30 minutes. The worst ESE results come from students who know Units 4–6 well but have completely forgotten Units 1–3 by exam time.

Weeks 15–20 (ESE preparation): No new topics. Solve at least five complete previous year SPPU papers in exam conditions. Check your answers against the solution key, find your weak spots, and target those only. By this point, you should be scoring 65%+ consistently on past papers.

The Subjects That Make or Break Your SGPA

Engineering Mathematics M-I and Engineering Mechanics account for the highest variance in student performance. Students who practice these daily throughout the semester end up with 80–90 marks. Students who cram them in the final two weeks rarely cross 55.

Engineering Graphics is won or lost by the number of drawings you have done. The skill is in your hands, not your head. A student who has drawn 40 projections before ESE finishes the paper in 2 hours. One who has drawn 5 often cannot finish.
